Professor Rohan Gunaratna is a specialist in global security affairs, with three decades of work across academia, policy and operations in national and international security. He is Professor of Security Studies at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
He holds a master's degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a Hesburgh Scholar, and a doctorate from the University of St Andrews, where he was a British Chevening Scholar. He previously served as a Senior Fellow at the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and testified before the 9/11 Commission on the structure of al-Qaeda. He is the author of 30 books, including Inside Al Qaeda: Global Network of Terror.
Dr. Clifford James Gere has served as President of Global Peace Institute, London since January 2020. He is a scholar of global security whose work spans international peacebuilding, counter-terrorism strategy and asymmetric warfare, with a focus on preventing violent extremism and building societal resilience.
He holds a PhD in Strategic Studies from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore, an MA in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University, an MS in Global Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests include terrorist organisations and strategic behaviour, counter-insurgency, foreign influence operations and hybrid warfare.
Dr. Aishath Rafiyya works on preventive peace: the geopolitics of small states, peace governance, hospitality as diplomacy, and technology and peace. A former diplomat of the Maldives with a doctorate in Politics and International Relations, she has more than two decades of experience across diplomacy, politics, peacebuilding, business and work with young people and communities. She began her career in banking and became the first woman in Maldivian history to be elected vice president of a political party.
Her work on counter-extremism, youth resilience and inclusive policy has informed dialogues at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNDP and the National Counter Terrorism Centre of the Maldives. She is a fellow of the Women in Conflict 1325 Fellowship and the founder of the Regional Alliance for Fostering Youth. She holds a doctorate in Politics and International Relations.
Joseph Jacob is Chief Operating Officer of Global Peace Institute, London, where he has led the Secretariat since 2020. He coordinates the Institute’s multilateral forums, liaises with intergovernmental bodies and manages its initiatives in peacebuilding and soft diplomacy. During his tenure the Institute has launched regional dialogues, the Global Peace Fellowship and leadership summits bringing together participants from more than 30 countries. A British-Turkish international lawyer and strategist, he has more than eight years of experience in legal advisory work, public diplomacy and institutional development across the United Kingdom, the Middle East and the Global South.
