Programmes and initiatives

The programmes of the Institute and the GPIL Academy, with the grade, certification or title each one leads to.

Our programmes are where the work is done. We mentor the young, train those who teach peace, and honour those who serve.

Scholars and practitioners

Global Peace Fellowship Programme

A fellowship for scholars, practitioners and community leaders who contribute to the Institute's research, teaching and dialogue. Fellows are nominated by the Chairman and appointed in four grades.

Fellows may use the Institute's post-nominals and are invited to contribute commentary, lead sessions in GPIL programmes and take part in its events.

The GPIL Academy

Peace Educator and Youth Advocate Training

The Peace Educator Certification and its companion training for advocates and youth leaders. It is for teachers, trainers, youth coordinators and peacebuilding practitioners, and is delivered online over three days of workshops, presentations and keynotes.

The programme covers what peacebuilding is, understanding violent extremism, conflict resolution, the role of educators and of technology in peacebuilding, social and emotional learning, resilience in the face of adversity, and a case study of Singapore's Religious Rehabilitation Group. Participants present their own work on the final day.

The GPIL Academy

GPIL Certification Pathway

The Academy's programmes lead to seven certifications, from Youth Peace Practitioner to Certified Peace Trainer, the Academy's highest training authority, held by expert trainers and senior educators who train and certify others.

Youth leadership

GPIL Young Ambassadors

Young people selected through the Global Youth Peace Summit, the Global Teens Peace Summit and the Young Ambassador training conference, who carry the Institute's work into their schools, universities and communities.

Ambassadors receive training in conflict management, critical thinking, resilience and volunteerism, and present their own projects to the Institute's leadership.

Meet the Young Ambassadors

Children

Junior Peace Ambassadors and Junior Peace University

GPIL works with young people over twelve and, through Junior Peace University, with children from the age of six. Through Junior Peace University, children learn about peace, empathy, kindness and responsibility in classes suited to their age, and graduate as Junior Peace Ambassadors.

Classes in the Maldives are taught in person in Hulhumalé, with online sessions for children on other islands. Each graduate takes the ambassador's pledge: to stand for peace, to care for family, friends and community, and to spread love and kindness to everyone.

Child Ambassadors for Healthy Life. The Institute's work with children includes the Global Children's Symposium on Healthy Lifestyle, held online with AIA-GESS in Georgia and STEM Space Maldives. Children aged six to ten presented in groups on health, the environment and safety, each group led by a teacher or a GPIL Young Ambassador, and completed the day as Child Ambassadors for Healthy Life.
