Revising and finishing

Welcome to the final lesson. All good writing is rewriting. In this lesson you will turn your draft into a finished piece.

Watch the lesson above. What is said in it is written out below, for reading and revision.

Cut and sharpen

First, cut. Remove every sentence that does not serve your argument. Give the piece a short, clear title. Then read it aloud: wherever you stumble, your reader will too.

The final checklist

Check every name, date and number against your sources, and make sure each source is linked. Then read it once more as your opponents would. Is it fair to them?

Your own work

Your piece must be your own work. Spelling and grammar tools are perfectly acceptable, but the ideas and the writing must be yours. Pieces that are copied, or written by a chatbot, will not be accepted.

Task 4: your final piece

Your final task: submit your finished commentary or book review, once your first three tasks are in.

Once it is in, our editors read it carefully. When it is accepted, your certificate is emailed to you. The finest pieces will be published by the Global Peace Institute, London. Thank you, and congratulations.

Task 4: your final commentary or book review

Your finished piece: a commentary of 700 to 900 words, or a book review (at least 600 words). You can submit it as soon as Tasks 1 to 3 are in. Our editors then read it, and your certificate follows once it is accepted.

When you submit, we will take you straight on to the next step.
